Where did all the simmers go?

The last several days I have been browsing what use to be popular sims forums and I was surprised on how little activity there is now. Some sites you can't even register now which is sad.

I know I stopped playing for several years, not by choice but still....where did all the simmers go?

I think that forums are no longer popular in new gamer generations unfortunately... Everyone want's to play games and stream on YouTube to get paid for that than when I remember back in 2007 when I first joined The Sims 2 community it was more about fun and creativity than making money or becoming a YouTube star.

So many simmers have moved on from the Sims 2 and 3, and most being disappointed in the lackluster Sims 4 have are pretty much finished with the Sims franchise. Many popular simming sites have had their members drop out of the simming community or passed away. Most simming sites just have members that register just to download their content, like SG, and not to participate on their forum so some have made their content available without registering. Some simming sites have decided to close their forums and disable registration due to lack of interest and just keep the site up for free content downloading. And like September mentioned, in this day and age of social media, the "younger" simming generation have opted out of socializing on forums and mostly follow the new wave of simming YouTubers and on Twitch and socialize there via the comment section.

All in all, it is my opinion that EA's goof up of the Sims 4 has pretty much led to the decline of the Sims franchise. The Sims 4 is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye and has advance CAS and building tools, but it is a real dud when it comes to gameplay quality.

It is really to bad, some of the things I loved about Sims is the creativity that not only I could do but others did as well. My download folder, of Sims 2 especially, was overflowing with creations that people had made.... and this was back when I had dial-up so it took "forever" to download even small items. Sadly I don't think I have any of them anymore.

I'm counting down the days until my computer arrives so that I can start playing Sims again. Yet it is bitter sweet seeing how much the Sims community has dwindled away and how much EA has goofed with Sims 4.

It has as far as The Sims 3 and Sims 4 goes: there has been a revival of sorts of the Sims 2 via Sims 4. Many young simmers and creators have discovered just how great a game Sims 2 is and have taken many Sims 4 and some Sims 3 creations and have converted them to Sims 2. That is why EA discontinued and abandoned The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection; they had so many asking for the digital version on Origin (if the disks are owned) and noticed that Sims 4 CC was being converted for the Sims 2 that they didn't want it competing with their lousy Sims 4 sales. It is now abandonware. I myself have found hundreds of new Sims 2 creators but they are on tumblrs and blogs, not forums or sites. I've been meaning to post links to them but they will have to be links, not buttons, as they don't have site buttons being that they are blogs.

You would have thought they would have looked at how popular sims 2 was getting again and take the opportunity to revisit the game, possibly come up with some new EP/SP and learn what people would like. But instead it sounds like they kinda shot themselves in the foot by discontinuing sims 2 and pushing new EP/SP for a flop game instead. Not sure if they would be able to recover from that with a Sims 5, especially with Paralives coming out.

I would be interested in links to the new creators that you had found.

I had thought about starting a sims blog again when I am able to play (The one I had I don't have access to anymore), at least for the story line/challenges I would play. But I'm starting to rethink that and posting them on here instead.

It will take a little time but I will let you know when I get them up. In the mean time, Garden of Shadows has a lot of good Sims 2 content. It's not easy to find everything though, the way they just drop their creations in threads, instead of organized categories. And All the Hairs is where you can find most alpha hairs.

Hello Sweet Flutterby! Welcome back... I've missed you, and I agree. I miss a lot of the Sims friends and creators I come to know in SG. I've always asked Cinda, "Where's everyone goin? I miss the way it used to be"! Many of our favorites have left or passed on. I miss Daisy terribly as I so very much enjoyed her stories. She was such an excellent writer, and they always made me feel like I was part of the story.

Sweet Nonni is no longer with us either. She always gave me much encouragement in my creations, and good tips and advice. It's sad that peeps only log on here just to get what they can to download, without any interaction, or even a "Hello!" Sorta ticks me off, but I still enjoy sharing.

Anyway, "Hello" to you and I'm so glad you have returned. God Bless You.

I missed you as well! Sorry that I disappeared for so many years, things were really bad for me for awhile but I won’t get into that here. I am planning on coming around regularly now.

I didn’t know about Daisy sorry to hear that. And I miss Nonni as well.
